The New York Times reported on Thursday that the State Department's Office of Defense Trade Controls opened an investigation into the possible breach this week after reports that three types of American cluster bombs were discovered in southern Lebanon and were responsible for civilian deaths.
The United Nations confirmed that 288 Israeli cluster bomb strike locations across the south of Lebanon.
Israeli attacks killed close to 1,200 people in Lebanon, mostly civilians, and did damage worth billions of dollars. Israel lost 157 people, mostly soldiers inside Lebanon.
