Chirac: Israel offensive aberrant
French President Jacques Chirac on Monday called the Israeli attack in Lebanon "aberrant" and demanded negotiations for a ceasefire.
St Petersburg, Russia: French President Jacques Chirac on Monday called the Israeli attack in Lebanon "aberrant" and demanded negotiations for a ceasefire.
Chirac also showed support for the idea of an international force to restore order in Lebanon, which has been hit by Israeli attack for the sixth straight day on Monday.
Chirac said the attacks have created a "dramatic situation" that would require a major reconstruction of Lebanon's infrastructure and had hit ordinary Lebanese.
"This unfortunate population ... is bearing the consequences of behaviour which is both violent and aberrant," Chirac said in the sidelines of the G8 summit in Russia.
