Toll in suicide blast rises to 30

Police search for more bodies in deadly suicide attack on Baghdad station

Baghdad: At least 30 people were killed and 50 wounded when a suicide bomber rammed a truck packed with explosives into a police station on Sunday.

Police said the bomber ignored the main gate of the station and rammed the poorly guarded entrance to an adjoining building before driving across open ground and smashing his vehicle into the police station in Dour.

The explosion brought down one side of the building and police said the death toll could rise as they were still searching through the rubble.

Local residents who rushed to the scene tried to help with rescue efforts before civil defense squads arrived with shovels to remove the debris and pull out the dead.

The dead included policemen and civilians. Police Capt. Abdel Samad Mohammed said 21 of the 30 killed were policemen.
