Suicide car bomber kills 20 labourers
Baghdad: At least 20 labourers were killed when a suicide car bomber crashed into a group waiting to be hired in the southern Baghdad town of Hilla on Sunday, police said.
Police said the explosion in the mainly Shiite town of Hilla occurred as construction workers were in a yard waiting to be hired.
At least 40 people were also wounded in the attack.
“The sudden explosion shook the whole area and shattered the windows of a store I was standing outside of nearby,'' said Muhsin Hadi Alwan, 33, one of the injured labourers. “The ground was covered with the remains of people and blood, and survivors ran in all directions.''
“How will I feed the six members of my family when I return home without work and without money?'' he added.
The bombing took place in the Bab Al Hussein area at around 7am, police said.
