Baghdad: Iraq's electoral commission on Sunday reported violations in voter registration in Kirkuk, with the number of new voters running to about five times the national average.
A statement from the commission said in the last two days, the commission found an increase "that is difficult to explain" in the number of voters who have filled out the form for addition to the voter list.
After checking, officials found a number of violations, including submission of only one document to verify the identity as against a requirement of two documents and same signature on more than one form, the election commission said.
Last month, the commission said it began an investigation into alleged irregularities in referendum on the new constitution in Kirkuk province where thousands of names were apparently added to the voter rolls.
Kurds want to include the ethnically diverse city of Kirkuk to their self-ruled region, an idea strongly rejected by the two other ethnic groups in the city, the Arabs and the Turko-men.
