Baghdad: The Association of Muslim Scholars and Iraq's largest Sunni Arab political party condemned a lethal US military attack in predominately Sunni area northwest of Baghdad on Saturday.
The US command said Friday's raid and airstrike killed 20 insurgents, but the association and the Iraqi Islamic Party joined a village mayor who claimed that the attack killed 19 civilians, including women and children.
Around 1,000 residents of Al Ishaqi village in the province of Salahuddin held a funeral for the civilians reportedly killed in the attack.
Meanwhile, at least 47 Iraqis were killed or found dead on Friday, including 25 who were struck in a mortar attack that night on a Shiite neighbourhood on the outskirts of Baghdad.
