Ramadi: Iraqi police have arrested 13 suspected Al Qaida members and seized dozens of explosive belts meant for suicide bombings, officials said on Sunday.
The mayor of the town Hit, west of Baghdad, said the suspects were arrested on Saturday night. Police also found 58 explosive belts.
"Acting on a tip delivered to the police, 13 people from Al Qaida were arrested while they were gathering in a house in western Hit," said Mayor Hikmat Jubair.
Jubair said the 13 were suspected of involvement in a suicide bombing last month that killed Hit's police chief, eight other policemen and four civilians.
