Moscow: Russia has delivered the first shipment of nuclear fuel to Iran's Bushehr nuclear power station, the Russian state agency said on Monday.
"The first stage (of delivering fuel) was completed on December 16: containers with fuel which had previously been sealed by IAEA inspectors were delivered to the site," Atomstroiexport said in its statement.
Russia's foreign ministry also said that it has received written assurances from Iran that the nuclear fuel delivered to Iran will not be used for any other purpose.
Delivery of the first batch of fuel created "qualitatively new conditions" which should allow Tehran to halt its own uranium enrichment programme because Russia was supplying all its nuclear fuel needs, the ministry said.
