Iran rejects Sarkozy's comments on nuclear threats

Tehran: Iran has declined French President Nicolas Sarkozy's comments that Islamic states posed new security threats that need to be controlled, media reports said on Sunday.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini stressed that Iran was a source of peace and stability in the Middle East, adding that Iran posed no threat to any country.

At the launch of France's latest nuclear-armed submarines on Friday, Sarkozy asserted that Iran was advancing its nuclear program amid serious international suspicion, and called for a deterrent against possible threats.

However, Hosseini told student news agency, ISNA, that correlating Iran's achievements to possible threats against other countries is “inappropriate and invalid'', adding that Iran's foreign policy is within international regulations.
