El Arish: Egyptian border guards opened fire and wounded a Sudanese man, part of a group of five trying to cross illegally into Israel.
Police say the four other Sudanese men ignored warning shots and managed to cross into Israel, just south of the Rafah border crossing.
The shooting is the latest in a series of similar cross-border incidents.
Chief physician Imad Kharboush at a North Sinai emergency unit says the 23-year-old wounded Sudanese man, who has been identified as Abdullah Shukar Abdullah, is undergoing surgery at El-Arish general hospital.
