Egypt arrests Africans at border
An Egyptian security official says border guards have arrested six African migrants trying to cross illegally into Israel.
El Arish: An Egyptian security official says border guards have arrested six African migrants trying to cross illegally into Israel.
The official says that two men, three women and a child from Eritrea and Ethiopia were caught on Wednesday around eight kilometres south of Rafah.
According to the official the migrants paid $500 (Dh1,836) to human traffickers for shelter in the Egyptian desert and a ride to the Israeli border. Guards shot at the migrants to stop them but reportedly none were hurt.
Scores of African migrants are arrested each year in Egypt, apparently trying to cross into Israel seeking asylum or jobs.
