The bus was carrying about 70 passengers when it plunged into a canal between Cairo and Minya after the driver tried to avoid an approaching truck.
Security sources said they expected the death toll to rise further once divers finished extracting bodies. Officials earlier reported 51 people were killed.
Many university students were among the dead, officials said.
