Sana'a: Yemen government forces and rival armed forces loyal to the defected general exchanged shelling on Sunday night, using rockets, mortars and heavy machine-guns, hours after government forces gunned down six protesters, local sources said.
Yemen President Ali Abdullah Saleh forces fired mortar and cannons at the headquarters of the first Armed division, which is commanded by General Ali Mohsin Al Ahmar who deserted Saleh and joined the anti-regime protesters.
Saleh forces bombarded for hours the house of Sadeq Al Ahmir, another tribal rival to the regime.
In return, the government accused the defected general forces of firing mortal shells on residential areas in the capital, killing two people.
Meanwhile, the Organising Committee of the Peaceful called for country-wide protests to mount pressure on Saleh to step down.
