Gulf states 'support Yemen's entry'
All GCC states are willing to support Yemen to join the council, GCC Secretary-General Abdul Rahman Al Attiyah said on Sunday.
Sana'a: All GCC states are willing to support Yemen to join the council, GCC Secretary-General Abdul Rahman Al Attiyah said on Sunday.
Al Attiyah, who is currently in Yemen, said that Yemen's membership would enhance security and stability of the Arabian Peninsula and Gulf. He also said an office for GCC secretariat will be opened in Sana'a.
"We are planning to open an office in Sana'a for following up the steps of Yemen's merger into the GCC," said Al Attiyah.
Last week, Al Attiyah told the Saudi Okaz newspaper the six Gulf states were holding high-level negotiations on Yemen's bid to join the organisation.
"Setting up a programme for the integration of the Yemeni economy in that of the Gulf economies would be the real beginning to Yemen's joining the alliance," he said.
