Motorists advised to exercise caution as wet conditions cause crash spike
Al Ain: With two more days left before the current unsettled weather clears off, motorists have been advised to exercise caution on rain-soaked roads, particularly in the mountainous areas.
Police and weather forecasters said driving in rainy conditions can be challenging.
“Motorists must not be adventurous and pose threats to other road users,” said a police official in Al Ain.
The large number of accidents on just a single day last Saturday in Dubai must serve as an eye opener for people sitting behind the wheel, he added.
Meanwhile weather conditions improved slightly on Monday, but scattered rain continued across the country, amid forecasts of more rain.
On Monday more light rains fell in western Al Ain, parts of Abu Dhabi, Fujairah, and Kalba in the afternoon.
The rain was heavy in Wadi Hulo in Sharjah where it created flash floods. Scattered light to moderate rain was also reported in Al Qua’a, Umm Al Zumool, Madinat Zayed, Liwa and other parts of the Western Region of Abu Dhabi.
The current weather has seen Al Ain record a fifth continuous day of rain and clouds.
Temperatures have dropped to pleasant levels and residents have been enjoying a virtual return of the winter season.
Police and municipality workers yesterday cleared a number of roads in the mountainous areas, where rainwater streams had dumped mud and stones. The roads in the hilly areas of Sharjah were particularly affected.
The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said the unstable weather conditions would continue on Tuesday.
The weather will be cloudy to partly cloudy with a chance of scattered rain. Winds will be moderate in general, becoming fresh at times. The sea will be moderate to rough at times. Temperatures are likely to hover around 18 to 32 degree Celsius.
