Rain and wind likely to hit the UAE

Motorists and fishermen warned of poor visibility and rough sea due to unstable weather

Al Ain: The national weather bureau has issued a weather alert, urging motorists to take precautions as more rain and windy conditions are heading towards the country.

Unsettled weather is likely to continue at least for the next three days, bringing scattered rain in various parts of the country, said the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) on Thursday. Winds are expected to kick up dust and sand in some open inland areas, reducing visibility.

Caution advised

The centre has also warned fishermen and weekend joyriders to stay away from the sea as it is expected to be rough.  The country has been facing unsettled weather for the last several days with scattered moderate to heavy rain.

The heaviest was in Al Qua, located 120km to the south of Al Ain, where 114mm of rain was recorded until noon Wednesday.

The NCMS forecaster said clouds had been moving in from over central and southern Saudi Arabia to the emirates.

Unstable conditions

“The country will be under the influence of unstable weather conditions in the next three days at least,” he said. The clouds may bring light to heavy scattered rain in various parts of the country along with occasional high winds.

He said this time of year is known as the transitional period between the summer and winter seasons.  “This period is usually characterised by a significant change in weather with reference to the climate history,” he added.
