Identity card required to register with Tanmia in UAE
Unemployed UAE nationals who want to register with the National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority (Tanmia) must have an identity card, said the minister of labour.
Dubai: Unemployed UAE nationals who want to register with the National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority (Tanmia) must have an identity card, said the minister of labour.
Dr Ali Bin Abdullah Al Ka'abi, Minister of Labour and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Tanmia, said, during the inauguration of a new registration centre for Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA), that Tanmia will no longer accept any applications for people without an identity card.
"The Population Register Project and the Identity card system are among the most important initiatives in the country since it will help build our database.
"It will help in creating a unified job application form and unified information system for unemployed nationals, which Tanmia is currently working on," said Al Ka'abi.
The new EIDA centre at Tanmia's headquarters in Al Nahda will accept a maximum of 40 applications.
Statistics
According to the authority's statistics, there are currently about 14,000 unemployed registered with them, but a senior official at Tanmia said the number of those that are actually unemployed might be less.
The new initiative will help them determine the exact number of unemployed applicants.
Nora Al Bedur, Director of Employment and Skill Development Centre at Tanmia, told Gulf News, that many of those who apply to the authority are not unemployed but are looking for better job opportunities.
"Since the establishment of the authority in 2000, we have received some 65,000 applicants but many of them turned out to be employed but are looking for better job opportunities. We were only able to find out through contacting the Pension authority - it was a time consuming process and it is not very accurate," said Nora.
Precise information
She added that by making the national identity card compulsory to register with Tanmia, it will enable the authority to have more precise information.
Registration for all expatriates in EIDA will start in May 2008.
Darwish Ahmad Al Zarouni, Director General of EIDA, said although expatriates can register with the authority now the doors for registration will be open in May.
