Abu Dhabi: All UAE airports will have e-gate facilities within two months and cardholders will be able to use the system at all entry points throughout the country, Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior, said on Tuesday.

After inaugurating four e-gates and an e-card issuing office at Terminal 1 of Abu Dhabi International Airport, the minister said similar facilities will be available at Al Ain, Sharjah, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah airports, followed by the technology's implementation at seaports and border posts.

Shaikh Saif said another four gates are being installed at Terminal 2 of the airport. The number of gates at Abu Dhabi and other airports will be increased as the demand for its use goes up, he added.

The technology was first used at Dubai International Airport. With the e-gate facility travellers simply need to swipe their cards at the electronic gates to get their immigration procedures done, skipping the immigration counters.

Travellers can use same card at all entry ports

- The e-gate facility will be called UAE Gate after its full implementation. It will cost Dh200 for two years.

- Owners will be to able use the card at all UAE entry ports to the UAE. The project is being handled by the General Directorate of Residency and Natura-lisation at the Ministry of Interior.

- The card is now available at Abu Dhabi and Dubai airports, but will be available at several retail outlets in future.
