Your Metro ride will cost less than Dh10, official says
You will have to pay less than Dh10 while travelling on the Dubai Metro as the exact amount is still to be finalised, said a senior official at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
Dubai: You will have to pay less than Dh10 while travelling on the Dubai Metro as the exact amount is still to be finalised, said a senior official at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
"The reports that the metro fare has been fixed at Dh10 are unfounded because it has not been finalised yet," Peyman Parham, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications for the RTA told Gulf News on Tuesday.
He said the metro ride would be very affordable and within the reach of every section of society. "There will be different metro fares as commuters will have the option of single journey fare, daily passes, weekly pass, monthly pass or even seasonal pass offering range of fare options," he added.
He said that the city would also be divided into zones and there would be different fares for different zones. However, he did not elaborate saying that the fare structure is still being prepared and will be announced only after approval from the higher authorities.
"I want to make one thing clear that fares will be within the reach of people because RTA wants people to use metro," he added.
Scheduled to cost Dh15.5 billion, the 74-km long Dubai Metro project is currently under construction in Dubai.
It comprises of the Red and the Green Lines. The 52.1 km long Red Line is scheduled to open on September 9, 2009 while the Green Line will be operational from March 2010.
