Sustainable transport awardees in Dubai honoured
Shaikh Hamdan honoured the winners of the award in various categories
Dubai: Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, honoured the winners of the 4th Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport (DAST) 2011 on Tuesday.
The award, initiated by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), aims to motivate public and private sectors to contribute towards curbing traffic congestion and thereby help conserve the environment.
Shaikh Hamdan honoured the winners of the award in various categories, flanked Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA.
A short video about DAST and the efforts of the Dubai Emirate to conserve the environment and natural wealth, was also screened at the ceremony, held at the Dubai World Trade Center.
DP World bagged the first position in the Mobility Management category for the Automatic Gate system project, ETA ASCON Dubai finished second for the Excellence in Mobility Assembly project, and Emirates NBD finished third for Employee Sustainable Mobility initiative. In the Transport Safety category, Emirates Gas LLC scooped the first position for the Safety Enhancement Program in transporting LPG cylinders, TNT Express was the runner-up for the Road Safety Management System project, and Total Co. finished third for the Integrated Sustainable Road Safety Methodology project.
Shaikh Hamdan also honoured the winners in the Environment Conservation category where Emirates Transport (Dubai Branch) finished first in the Conversion of Vehicles to use Natural Gas project, Neutral Fuels LLC and McDonald's UAE finished second for the Converting of McDonald's Transport and Logistics Fleet to 100 per cent use of Bio-fuel project, and the Center of Waste Management-Abu Dhabi finished third for the Recycling of Tires project. In the Disabled Mobility category, The Fujairah Rehabilitation Centre for the Disabled finished first for the Safe Arrival initiative, the Social Services Department (Sharjah Elderly House) came second for the Deployment of a Dedicated and Equipped Bus for the Elderly project to lift the elderly from the House to their destination, but the third position award was withheld. In the School Transport category Gulf Indian High School in Dubai took the first position for the Safety Formula equals Provision of Secure and Sustainable School Transport, Al Mustaqbal School in Abu Dhabi was the runner-up for the My Bus My Library ..the Book is Friend project, while the third position award was withheld. In the Special Honour category the Society of Engineers was the winner of the Best Media Coverage.
Shaikh Hamdan also honoured the sponsors of DAST.
