- Security forces will exercise their duties in Metro stations in Dubai.
Abu Dhabi: Metro stations in Dubai will be secured by 668 military personnel, 3,000 surveillance cameras, two police stations, eight security offices and police sniffer dogs, it was disclosed in the September issue of 999 magazine.
The monthly magazine is published by the Ministry of Interior in Abu Dhabi.
Col Abdullah Al Ghaithi, Director of the Public Transport Security Department (PTSD) of Dubai Police, said in an interview with the magazine that "a special budget has been allocated to the department to provide personnel, systems and equipment for administrative work, as well as specialised training sessions, purchase of sniffer dogs, patrol vehicles for security of stations and public transport in general in the emirate and the latest surveillance cameras at all metro stations."

Asked if there was a security plan especially for Dubai Metro stations, Col. Al Gaithi said PTSD was solely responsible for the security of Dubai Metro and all the public transport in the emirate.
"The department has prepared an integral security plan in this respect. It started with the training of 204 out of a total of 688 military personnel to upgrade their security capabilities. Others will join later," Col. Al Gaithi said.
He also pointed out that some security agents will exercise their duties in uniform while others will be in plain clothes.
The force also include women personnel who will deal with ladies and families.
He said two police stations will be set up at Union Square Station and BurJuman Metro stations. A further eight police stations will cover other stations.
There will also be a special operations room which will be linked directly with the General Headquarters of Dubai Police.
Col Al Gaithi disclosed that PTSD will have its own building soon.
"Special designs are being prepared to construct special building for the department. The department is now operating at the General Department of Organisations, Protective Security and Emergency," he said.
