Ras Al Khaimah: An Indian national was killed on Julphar Street here after a speeding vehicle ran him over.
A senior officer from the emirate's Traffic and Licensing Department said the 27-year-old victim identified as H.K was crossing the street when the speeding car driven by a 31-year-old Emirati identified as Y.A. hit him.
The officer said the driver who was accompanied by a compatriot identified as S.M. did not see the victim on the street and did not reduce his speed for that reason.
The accident was reported to the emirate's police, who sent an ambulance to the scene.
The driver's friend sustained light injuries and was taken to Saqr Hospital for treatment. The body of the Indian national was sent to the morgue. The police officer said they carried out an investigation into the accident and found out that the registration card of the vehicle had been expired for a long time and the vehicle was not insured.
Detention
The Chief of Public Prosecution authorised the victim's body to be delivered to his family for burial and ordered the detention of the Emirati driver for seven days.
The case has been referred to the Traffic Court. The Public Prosecution accused Y.A. of reckless driving, which led to the death of the Indian national and driving a vehicle with an expired registration card.
Meanwhile, another Bangladeshi national was also pronounced dead at Saqr Hospital due to fatal injuries sustained when a heavy vehicle hit his bicycle.
The 26-year-old victim identified as S.M. was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Saqr Hospital a week ago. Medical sources said the victim's medical condition deteriorated and that he was provided with all the necessary medical care but did not survive the injuries.
The police officer said the victim was badly injured by the heavy vehicle driven by M.A.
The officer said 58 people of various nationalities have lost their lives due to road accidents in Ras Al Khaimah since the beginning of this year.
