Dubai: Two people were killed and one sustained injuries in separate road accidents in the last two days.
An Asian driver was killed when his truck overturned on Emirates Road. Police said the victim was speeding and not paying enough attention.
Patrols from Al Rashidiyah Police Station and land rescue teams pulled out the driver's body trapped in the cabin.
Another driver was killed in a collision between two trucks on Dubai-Al Ain Road near Al Minhad base bridge.
Land rescue teams had to retrieve the driver's body from the wreckage.
Five-car collision
In another accident involving five cars on Emirates Road near the Vegetable Market Bridge, police had to use hydraulic cutters to rescue a driver trapped in a car. He had sustained serious injuries and was admitted to a hospital.
Major Juma'a Bin Darwish Al Falasi, Director of Dubai Police's Rescue Department, warned motorists and road users to be cautious while driving on highways or internal roads.
He called on motorists and truck drivers to abide by speed limits and road signs and wear seatbelts to reduce the impact of accidents.
Statistics: 79 deaths in 3 months
According to the latest statistics from Dubai Police's Traffic Department, 79 people were killed in road accidents in the first quarter of this year compared to 65 people during the same period last year.
The reasons were speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, lack of consideration from road users and not leaving enough distance between vehicles.
