Dubai: The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced new road development projects worth Dh2.9 billion.

The projects include improving of Al Wasl Road, Al Khail Road and the Umm Suqueim Road. New underpasses will be built at Al Wasl Road while the number of lanes on Al Khail Road will be increased from the existing four to six on each direction in addition to replacing the roundabouts with interchanges. The six-phase Al Khail project will cost Dh1.8billion. The Trade Centre roundabout will also be replaced with flyovers and signalised intersection to ease congestion.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has approved designs of the new projects which aim to enhance safety of motorists and to reduce accidents. Shaikh Mohammad directed the RTA to complete the projects on schedule and follow all the safety standards.

The much awaited Al Wasl Road improvement project involves constructions of four underpasses at four signalised intersections. The project will cost Dh430 million.

Motorists have been demanding that Al Wasl Road be improved because at least seven people were killed and dozens others injured there in the last two years due to accidents at dangerous U-turns.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA said the Trade Centre Roundabout would be replaced with flyovers and signalised intersection.

Trade Centre Project comprises construction of bridges from Zabeel II Road in the direction of Shaikh Zayed Road towards Abu Dhabi; which will help reduce traffic considerably. The overall cost of the project is Dh690 million. The construction schedule will be announced soon.

Do you travel within Dubai on a daily basis? How will these projects affect your commute? Do you think the new projects will ease the traffic congestion?

The project to be started immediately to reduce traffic jam. I am very happy with RTA. RTA every second searching and arranging the traffic problems in the conjucted area and taking sudden action for smooth traffic.
