Safety tip: do not overtake
Motorists should not try to overtake trucks and heavy vehicles, especially on roundabouts, said Brig Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, director of Dubai Police's Traffic Department.
Dubai: Motorists should not try to overtake trucks and heavy vehicles, especially on roundabouts, said Brig Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, director of Dubai Police's Traffic Department.
Brig Zafein said it is safer to give way to heavy vehicles.
Danger
If a heavy vehicle were on a motorist's right on a roundabout, he said, it could pose a danger to the motorist due to the vehicle's load and weight.
In case of any accident, injuries would be serious and could lead to death.
Brig Al Zafein said many heavy vehicle drivers do not realise that speeding with a heavy load does not give them enough chance to stop safely and in time, in case of an emergency.
He gave the example of a running overweight person compared to a running fit person. The overweight person would need more time to stop because of his weight.
"This is just an example of how weight may affect the speed and reaction of heavy vehicles in case of emergencies," Brig Al Zafein said.
