RTA steps up efforts to ease traffic jams

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the opening of Al Soufoh-Al Barsha Bridge.

Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the opening of Al Soufoh-Al Barsha Bridge.

RTA said in a statement the Al Soufoh-Al Barsha Bridge extends across Shaikh Zayed Road and consists of two lanes in each direction.

Maitha Obaid Bin Udai, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency, said Al Soufoh-Al Barsha Bridge is a vital part of a massive project extending 11km and aims at improving the roads network at Al Soufoh area.

The project, which cost Dh210 million, includes constructing of a tunnel parallel to Shaikh Zayed Road and Al Soufoh Road, linking Umm Suqeim with Knowledge Village. The project will be completed by the end of this month.

She said Al Soufoh area is one of the vital areas of Dubai.

Meanwhile, RTA said the Al Maktoum Bridge project will ease traffic jams.

Maitha said the improvements on the Bur Dubai side of Al Maktoum Bridge included widening of roads leading and linking to the bridge as well as widening the access to the bridge at Umm Harir Road from two to three lanes.

"This will increase the capacity of the bridge and ease congestion of outbound traffic from Shaikh Zayed Road towards Deira. Improvements also included roads leading to the bridge from Deira area," she said.

Meanwhile, a team of senior officials from the Rail Agency of Roads and Transport Authority recently made a three day visit to Vossloh Cogifer, Reichshoffen and Bouloge in France to inspect the manufacturing of switch points, frog castings, crossovers and special track materials.
