Dubai: A total of 169 offence tickets have been issued to abra operators by the Marine Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority, in the last six months.
This spanned the period from the beginning of January to the end of June, and the value of the fines was Dh19,320.
Hussain Ali Al Saffar, director, Operation and Maintenance Department, RTA Marine Agency, said: "These penalties are meant to deter abra operators from reckless behaviour ... to streamline passenger transport across Dubai Creek by motorised abras, of which there are 149 units in service. A total of 17 offences have been reported and subjected to fines, varying from Dh100 to Dh500," he said.
Al Saffar continued that the highest offence on the list was failure to dock or park the abra in the prescribed station.
