RTA gets richer by Dh16.37m
The last auction of the distinguished vehicle number plate for the year 2007 fetched Dh16.37million for the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
Dubai: The last auction of the distinguished vehicle number plate for the year 2007 fetched Dh16.37million for the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
Distinguished number G-10000 was highest bid and was sold for Dh990,000. A total of 54 plate numbers were sold in the auction held in a hotel in Dubai.
Numbers G-50000 and G-70000 got also got much attention as they were sold for Dh510,000 and Dh470,000 respectively.
The numbers 10000, 20000, 30000, 40000, 50000, 60000, 70000, 80000, and 90000 of Category G, were sold for a total of Dh12.40 million after heated bidding by participants.
"The auction of 54 distingished car registration numbers was the the last in a series of Distinguished Numbers Auctions in 2007. These auctions will be held in a better format in 2008, as the RTA is seeking to fulfil the demand of a large category of community members who wish to own distinguished vehicle numbers," said an RTA official.
He said the distinguished numbers have been very popular amongst people especially those who own expensive cars.
He said people also have to pay a fee for reserving their numbers if they are not using it on their vehicles.
