Dubai: Police will not be lenient with errant motorists who disrespect road safety, said the chief of Dubai police.

He asked traffic control teams to find and implement a mechanism to deter errant motorists who endanger the lives of road users and delay traffic.

Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim called on them to intensify traffic patrols on various roads, in order to catch offenders and implement strict procedures against motorists who do not abide by traffic rules.

He held a meeting with traffic control teams and said, "Dubai Police will not be lenient with reckless motorists who do not care and do not follow traffic rules that are there to protect road users."

Offences

Lieutenant General Dahi pointed out that traffic control teams are well positioned on all roads, especially on roads where there are many offences.

The teams pull over cars to check the driving licences and vehicle registrations, the fitness of tires, tinting, core changes in the vehicles done without permission and marks of accidents on vehicles' bodies.

"We aim to put an end to the behaviour of some reckless motorists, as one of the strategic goals of Dubai Police," Lieutenant General Dahi said.

He said he had inspected traffic patrols in October and issued orders to restructure patrols in Deira and Bur Dubai under the direct field supervision of the department's officers.
