Abu Dhabi/Dubai: Police have urged motorists to follow traffic rules for safe and happy National Day celebrations and advised not to stick posters on car windows that block the view.

Traffic police have also advised people not to stick their heads out of windows or dance on the bonnets of their vehicles as this could lead to accidents.

"Do not carry more than the number of people usually allowed in a vehicle," said Brigadier Hussain Al Harthi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department at Abu Dhabi Police

He congratulated UAE residents and wished everyone would stay safe as they took part in the festivities.

"Motorists are strongly urged not to change the colours of their vehicles or tint the windsheild beyond the accepted limit," Brig. Al Harthi said.

He also urged people not to create chaos on the streets and said traffic patrols will be increased on all roads in preparation for the celebrations and parades.

"Some motorists seize the opportunity to break traffic laws," he said and warned that they would be dealt with severely.

Clear number plates

Brig Al Harthi added that car number plates should not be concealed with decorations and or be spray-painted over.

"Motorists should not blow their horns continuously or add devices that increase noise. Stopping the vehicle in the middle of the road to talk to others creates traffic jams," he added.

In Dubai, Major General Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, Director of the Traffic Department at Dubai Police, said all officers and policemen will be working during the National Day holidays to ensure smooth flow of traffic during the numerous National Day events across the emirate.

"Traffic patrols will be increased on all roads ," he said and added that a plan has been drawn up to monitor traffic on all roads, especially where spontaneous parades usually take place, such as Jumeirah, Al Sufouh, Dubai Marina, Warqa and other areas.

"By intensifying its patrols, the traffic departments aims to cut down the number of deaths caused by traffic accidents," he said.

On duty until the end

Police will be on duty tomorrow from 4pm until the end of parades, and patrols will be distributed on busy junctions to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

Special team patrols will be intensified in all areas to curb the chaos created by some reckless people, Maj Gen Al Zafein said.

Sharjah Police have also warned motorists to abide by the law and have devised plan to control traffic on the Buhaira Corniche and its surrounding areas.

The police warned that they would not be lenient with the violators and those who deliberately create traffic blockades and disruptions.
