Abu Dhabi: Used car traders and owners who use pavements, streets and public parking areas for exhibiting their used cars for sale will be fined Dh500 for tarnishing the image of the emirate, an official said on Monday.

Ali Tarish Al Muhairbi, head of the Public Health Department, said the Municipalities and Agriculture Department at Abu Dhabi Municipality has begun issuing tickets to violators.

The move is in line with the municipality's efforts to preserve the image and beauty of Abu Dhabi, he said.

"Extreme measures will be taken against violators who are found exhibiting used cars on streets, pavements and public parking areas," Al Muhairbi added.

Meanwhile, the municipality in coordination with Abu Dhabi Police will soon launch a campaign to raise public awareness about the importance of preserving the city's beauty, he added.

Officials held several meetings during which they discussed the procedures required for increasing awareness.

They also set new criteria for marking and naming streets and laying down unified designs for billboards.
