Dubai: A commuter can make unlimited use of all modes of public transport including the Dubai Metro, public buses and water buses by purchasing a Dh270 Nol pass valid for 30 days. This works out to Dh9 per day for unlimited travel.

The monthly passes cost Dh100, Dh180 or Dh270 depending on the areas of use. The Dh100 pass is valid within one zone, while the Dh180 pass is valid for travel within two adjacent zones and the Dh270 pass is good for unlimited travel in all zones.

Nol Cards are unified automated fare collection cards and the fare will be deducted automatically on a "pay as you go" basis. Nol is a Farsi word meaning "fare" or "cost of using transport".

There are a total of four types of Nol cards including the Nol Silver, Nol Blue, Nol Gold Card, and the Nol Red Ticket.

Children under five years old will travel free while students and senior citizens (aged 60 and above) will get special discounted cards. A student monthly pass will cost Dh170 for unlimited trips while a senior citizens' pass for a month will cost Dh200. These passes will be introduced at least three to four months after the launch of the Red Line of the Metro on September 9.

The unified prepaid Nol cards will be available at the stations and vending machines, petrol stations, RTA customer services centre and authorised sales agents. Nol cards can be topped up and the fare will automatically be deducted depending on the use.

Nol Silver Card has an e-purse rechargeable up to Dh500, and the journey fare is calculated automatically based on the fare table. This card can be purchased from any ticket booth and some ticket vending machines at a price of 6 dirham for the card and an initial balance of Dh14 dirham rechargeable. It is valid for five years.

Nol Blue Card is a personalised card with user photo on it and no other user can use it should it be lost or stolen. Therefore the credit is secure. It has an e-purse and can hold up to Dh500 credit. It enables the user to obtain secure online services such as balance recharging.

Nol Gold Card is rechargeable and can hold up Dh500 worth of credit. This card can be purchased from any ticket booth and some ticket vending. This card enables the user to use the Gold Class in Metro, and in case this card is used on other modes of transport with no Gold Class cabins, the user will be charged the normal fare.

Nol Red Tickets is Dh2-dirham paper ticket rechargeable that can be recharged for one or two journeys and up to 10 journeys maximum. This ticket can only be used for one mode of transport at a time. This ticket does not have an e-purse account, and has to be pre-paid with the correct journey type. This ticket is valid for 90 days. nol card: How to use it
