The old Al Mafraq Bridge will be closed for traffic from Friday, December 11 onwards, Municipality of Abu Dhabi City announced on Wednesday. Traffic will be diverted to Mohammad Bin Zayed City Bridge (Mahawi 2).
The bridge closure was part of Al Mafraq Bridge renovation and improvement works plan and will help in the completion of a new interchange, says municipality. The new interchange will improve the capacity of the bridge and enhance traffic flow; ensuring more safety to road users. The Bridge closure will continue till the completion of construction works in the new interchange.
“The project includes construction of a 75-metre-long main bridge comprising four lanes and a shoulder in the direction of Dubai - Al Sila Road and two more bridges - one to serve the traffic from Abu Dhabi to Al Shahama, and the other to serve the traffic from Abu Dhabi to Al Sila,” said Abdullah Saeed Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Municipal Infrastructure and Assets Sector.
“It also includes 18-km long ring roads and slip roads providing traffic link between Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Western Region, and the Northern Region”, he added.
