New speed limit for motorists on Al Ain-Dubai Road
People driving on an under-construction portion of Al Ain-Dubai Road have been warned to adhere to the new speed limit as speed limit has been reduced to 80km from the previous 160km.

Al Ain: People driving on an under-construction portion of Al Ain-Dubai Road have been warned to adhere to the new speed limit after it was reduced to 80km/h from the previous 160km/h
The traffic police has taken the action following the loss of several human lives in accidents in the area.
Recently, an Emirati family met with a tragic accident in which a young mother and her infant daughter died. Her husband and a housemaid were also critically injured in the accident.
Radars
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Khalifa Al Khaili, Head of Al Ain Traffic Police and Patrols Section, said the radars on the road have been reprogrammed and will catch a vehicle moving at or beyond the speed of 101km/h.
Lieutenant Colonel Al Khaili said drivers who violate traffic rules and regulations are not only putting their lives in danger, but also threatening the safety of other road users. "We'll take strict actions against drivers with unruly behaviour on the streets," he added.
Do you use the Al Ain-Dubai highway regularly? Will a lower speed limit be effective in reducing the number of accidents? How else can the highway be made safer?

100KMPH!!!! Its a long route and people usually take it to drive fast and get to their destination fast... when do u guys expect us to reach our destination...

There should be no grace limit on radar, if the road sign says limit is 100 km/h then it should catch vehicle at 101 km/h.
Its always better to be late then meeting with an accident.

I am pleased to know that the government is taking actions in order to secure the lives of people. I would like to bring into the attention of government to pass a law against people who drive in fog and put on hazard lights, normally the people who rush to offices especially on Abu Dhabi roads follow such practices and this is highly risky specially when there is fog. hazard lights should only be put if there is an accident or the car is parked or worn-out.

I regularly use the Al Ain-Dubai road. I think it is not only the speed problem. Accidents can be contributed by mobile using and some more activities drivers are doing while they cruise the road.

It is a good decision. I too narrowly escaped from two racing Benz cars on Al Ain road. I was in middle lane and two benz cars were racing on either side of me at construction area. Right side lane was closed ahead of me but rightside benz car not bothered to reduce speed and over took me just before (few feet) close of the road.

Yes, but more important is respect of other motorists and traffic laws. In those Situations or Areas, motorists reduce there speed un-necessarily and suddenly that increase more chances of accidents and traffic jams.

The drivers had to be informed before-hand of the change. The first fine morning of the week took everyone using the road by surprise when they found out the hard way that the speed limits had been changed from 160 to 80. The signs came up on Wednesday. That was late.

I use this road as well as many other highways and I believe that lowering the speed limit will not reduce the number of road accidents. The Police should clamp down on bad drivers and drivers that undertake and rubber neck. I would propose that some sort of education to make people aware that the fast lane is for fast cars, so to prevent undertaken/rubber necking thus prevent accidents. Ban all Mini buses, small pick-ups and cars with engines lower than 2 litres from entering the fast lane.

Huh !! Is this a joke ? Driving at 100kph on Dubai-Al Ain Road is a complete joke. When will we reach our destination? Should we leave Ajman at 10am to reach Al Ain by 5pm?
