Newly named Danube station accepts passengers for the first time on Wednesday

Dubai: Danube Metro station, formerly Jebel Ali Industrial station, began operations on Wednesday, becoming 28th station to open on the Red Line of Dubai Metro.

Danube Group which bought the naming rights of the station from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) last month, became the first expat owned business to do so.

The station was inaugurated by Sultan Saeed Al Mansouri, UAE Minster of Economy in the presence of Matar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of RTA and Rizwan Sajan Founder and Chairman of Danube Group.

The station has the capacity to handle around 11,000 people per hour per direction, while it is expected to bring at least 10,000 more riders to metro, which has current average ridership of 360,000 per day.

Danube is also the second station to provide direct access to JAFZA, which houses 6,700 firms and has a working a living population of 170,000.
