National Paints roundabout reopened
The roundabout underneath National Paints flyover was re-opened on Monday after chaos ensued on Sunday evening following its partial closure.
Sharjah: The roundabout underneath National Paints flyover was re-opened on Monday after chaos ensued on Sunday evening following its partial closure.
"The roundabout has been opened again after heavy congestion was witnessed in the area. However, the roundabout will be installed with traffic light signals as according to plan to ensure a smooth traffic flow," said Lt. Cl. Ahmad Bin Darwish, Head of the Anjad Patrols.
The roundabout was partially closed on Sunday by the Department of Public Works in coordination with Sharjah Police, for a trial period to measure the traffic movement in the area.
Initial plan
The initial plan was to close the roundabout during peak hours in the morning and afternoon, which left motorists stuck in heavy congestion.
The National Paints roundabout is a popular route for motorists leaving Emirates Road, and heading towards the schools and University City.
"The cars started to pile up as early as 4pm on the Emirates Road, and it took me more than two hours to get home. I had no idea what was going on until I saw the roundabout," said one motorist.
