Mohammad unveils designs for carriages and stations of Al Sufouh Tramway project

Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, unveiled the models for the carriages and stations of the Al Sufouh Tramway project Sunday.
Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince, was present.
During a visit to the project location at Jumeira Walk, Shaikh Mohammad approved the interior design for the Tramway carriages, and a number of initiatives by Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) that aim to enhance the role of public transport in the emirate.
Shaikh Mohammad viewed the tramway route map, and was briefed about the 14.7 km route by Mattar Mohammad Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA.
The first phase of the route, which will be 10.7km long, will be carried out at an estimated cost of Dh 4 billion, and will begin from a station at Jumeira Walk to Mall of the Emirates. The first phase of the project also includes the completion of 13 stations from a total of 19, and eight tramway carriages from a total of 25.
Al Tayer explained to Shaikh Mohammad and other attendants that each carriage will have a 400 passenger capacity.
He added that project is expected to transport 5,000 passengers per hour.
Al Tayer said that the tramway project will have three compartments: Gold, Silver, and one for women and children. He pointed out that the tramway will make use of the most modern technologies to ensure the leisure and comfort of passengers.
