Ras Al Khaimah: A man died within hours after arriving in the UAE in a horrific accident yesterday on the Emirates Road while a taxi driver also lost his life in the same accident.
According to the police, the Nepali man died on his way from the airport to Ras Al Khaimah soon after his arrival when a heavy vehicle hit the taxi he had hired from Sharjah airport.
Lost control
Lieutenant Colonel Hassan Al Jeeda, who heads the Traffic Section at the Traffic and Licensing Department, said the 24-year-old Nepali man, identified as B.B, and the 45-year-old Indian taxi driver were pronounced dead at the accident scene.
He said the accident took place when the heavy vehicle driven by an Indian, identified as S.B, lost control of his vehicle and hit the taxi. The accident was reported to the authorities which dispatched vehicles and ambulances to the scene.
The rescuers were not able to reach the victims in the taxi and a civil defence force was summoned with hydraulic cutters.
Medics pronounced the two men dead at the scene and referred their bodies to the police morgue. The Public Prosecution later authorised the delivery of their bodies to their families for burial. The Indian driver of the heavy vehicle was unharmed.
Police initiated an investigation into the accident and the Indian driver of the heavy goods vehicle was held responsible. He was referred to the Public Prosecution and the Traffic Court. He was charged with reckless driving which caused the death of two people.
