Jumping red lights and speeding most common traffic offences in Dubai

More than two million traffic offences were reported in Dubai last year.
Brigadier Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, Director of Dubai Police's Traffic Department, said the fines issued were for all violations, including those caught by radars and those issued on the spot.
He said police issued 1,312,893 traffic fines in the first half of the year. There were 220,563 spot fines while 1,092,330 fines were issued in absentia.
Brigadier Al Zafein said traffic offences caught by radar topped the list of violations with 69,753 offences. Violations caught by radars include speeding and jumping red lights.
Other main offences were blocking traffic with 23,110 offences, lane line violation by light vehicles with 22,456 offences, followed by parking in prohibited places with 10,792 offences and parking on pavements with 8,711 offences.
Other offences included seatbelt violation, parking behind vehicles and blocking their movement, not leaving enough distance behind vehicles, wrong U-turns, lane line violation by heavy vehicles, unfit tires, parking in places allocated for people with special needs, driving with expired registrations, sudden swerving, and reversing in a dangerous way.
Brigadier Al Zafein said most traffic fines were issued in February.
