Dubai: The Red Line, from Rashidiya through central Dubai to Jebel Ali, is set to start operations in September next year, the Roads and Transport Authority announced on Friday.
It said that 60 per cent of work is nearly complete on the elevated track. This includes completion of the tunnelling ahead of schedule and the construction of the main power station in Jebel Ali.
A drive along Shaikh Zayed Road will reveal the long stretch of elevated track under construction, it said.
Adnan Al Hammadi, Director of Construction of Rail Projects, said the piers, concourse and mezzanine floors of stations such as Jebel Ali Industrial Area, Dubal, Ibn Battuta, Al Barsha and Burj Al Arab are complete.
Piling for the stations and viaducts at Rashidiya and Garhoud are complete and the steel structure for the station with cladding is complete at Terminal 3.
The Jebel Ali depot will consist of an operation control centre, the main power station and a yard which can hold 44 trains and perform regular maintenance on the trains.
The Rail Agency is pre-paring to start test operations in August. The 10-km test track is being laid between Ibn Battuta and Jebel Ali Depot.
