Dubai Police plan 'smart' new radars to catch speed violators
Police will soon start using a "smart" hidden radar which can be mounted on any vehicle without being noticed, a senior police official said.
Dubai: Police will soon start using a "smart" hidden radar which can be mounted on any vehicle without being noticed, a senior police official said.
Lieutenant Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Acting Director of the Dubai Police Traffic Department, said the radar will be used for the first time in the region and will be tested for a month before being put into operation.
He said this radar totally differs from other kinds of radars as it can differentiate between a light vehicle and a truck through a smart system which can differentiate between the vehicles based on their sizes and length.
The radar is fixed with two cameras, one to catch speeding light vehicles and the other to catch speeding trucks.
Lt Col Al Mazroui said 500 radars will be set up after Eid Al Fitr, 50 of which will be on Shaikh Zayed Road. He said the new radar can observe in both directions up to 500 metres with clarity and one kilometre with less clarity.
Lt Col Al Mazroui pointed out to another kind of radar fixed with a video camera and is connected to the Dubai Police Operations Room, which will be used soon.
