Dubai court sends out tough warning to errant drivers
A court is sending out a firm warning to reckless and inattentive motorists who drive with negligence and lack of consideration for others.
Dubai: A court is sending out a firm warning to reckless and inattentive motorists who drive with negligence and lack of consideration for others.
Traffic enforcement officers will pursue reckless drivers until the streets become clear of motorists who endanger the lives of others and damage property, a traffic official told Gulf News.
The Dubai Traffic Court of First Instance sent out its firm warning after Presiding Judge Omar Abdul Aziz Karmastagi sentenced 39-year-old Egyptian driver, H.M., to one month in jail and ordered him to pay Dh200,000 blood money to the parents of an Indian victim whom he accidentally killed in a collision.
The Traffic Public Prosecution charged H.M. with driving inattentively and causing the death of the victim, S.P., after he swerved to the right side and hit two cars. Two other victims were injured in the massive three-car collision on Emirates Road.
The court also fined the Egyptian Dh5,000 for reckless driving and causing damage to two other vehicles. His licence has been revoked for three months.
During the same court session, Presiding Judge Karmastagi fined a 32-year-old Jordanian computer programmer Dh20,000 for driving recklessly and under the influence of liquor, as charged by the Traffic Public Prosecution. The court also seized his driver's lic-ence for three months.
A traffic patrol spotted the suspect driving recklessly in front of a hospital in Deira. The accused was asked to pull over and the traffic patrollers suspected that he was drunk. Medical reports confirmed that he had been drinking and his car was confiscated.
