Dubai: Obtaining a new driver's licence in case of loss or damage will no longer require travelling to the emirate which issued the licence, traffic officials announced yesterday.
The service is one among seven services that has been simplified for the customers due to the completion of the second phase of a link between the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the federal traffic system.
The linking of the drivers and vehicles licensing services, with the federal traffic system, was completed in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior.
"Seven services including — transferring vehicles within the UAE, exporting vehicles abroad, writing off/owning vehicles, issuing driving licences in lieu of lost or damaged ones, modifying the details of a vehicle, and renewing the retention of number plates — can now be completed at any emirate, regardless of the place of issue," Ahmad Hashim Behroozian, Chief Executive Officer of the RTA's Licensing Agency, told Gulf News.
"This will save much time and effort for customers, who earlier needed to go to the Emirate that issued the driving licence or vehicle ownership card."
The first phase of the link was completed last year, in October, when driving licences and vehicle licences could be renewed at any Emirate. According to statistics of the Licensing Agency, about 10,000 transactions have been processed since the link was established.
