Abu Dhabi/Fujairah: Passengers praised the smooth operations at Abu Dhabi International Airport yesterday after their flights were diverted from Dubai.

Passengers boarding Dubai-bound buses at Abu Dhabi International Airport praised the presence of additional officers and staff assisting them in immigration and customs clearance. Almost all the passengers said they had left the airport within 30 minutes of their arrival. A dozen flights were diverted to Abu Dhabi from Dubai.

Alex Longly, a passenger of British Airways BA109 from London, along with a group of people coming for the upcoming Dubai Boat Show, said she and her friends had no problem with the clearance.

"It was fine and smooth," she said, adding that the flight was scheduled for arrival at 8:30am in Dubai and landed at the same time in Abu Dhabi.

"We have managed to accommodate the rush without disrupting our regular operations. All inbound and outbound flights operated on their original schedule," said Khalifa Al Mazroui, Chairman and Managing Director of Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC).

Al Mazroui commended airport staff and agencies. By the time Dubai Airport reopened at 2pm, Abu Dhabi Airport had accommodated a total of 11 flights carrying a total of 2,803 passengers, ADAC said.
