Dh25m Sharjah traffic project aims to ease road congestion
A new traffic system has been launched that will monitor the duration of traffic lights based on the amount of congestion on the roads.
Sharjah: A new traffic system has been launched that will monitor the duration of traffic lights based on the amount of congestion on the roads.
Within the forthcoming months, more than 14 intersections and squares will be connected to the central control room at Sharjah Municipality that will also alert police if there is heavy congestion, according to Sultan Abdullah Al Mu'alla, Assistant General Manager of Enterprises and Public Services at Sharjah Municipality.
"It was necessary to use modern means to facilitate the increasing traffic, as there is no doubt that traffic signal lights play an active role in controlling traffic movement in every city," he said.
The project was launched at a cost of over Dh25 million, with the aim of reducing traffic congestion in Sharjah by controlling the duration of traffic lights.
Al Mu'alla said Sharjah has witnessed a rapid increase in the number of cars on the road and that it was necessary to combat the heavy traffic caused by road expansion and the construction of intersections and bridges.
