Abu Dhabi: The Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi invited local and international contractors to bid for the construction of the new Abu Dhabi-Dubai motorway (E311), expected to complete by the end of 2014.
The new road will reduce the distance between the two city by 30 kilometres.
The Dh2 billion project aims to alleviate traffic congestion on the current main road connecting Abu Dhabi to Dubai (E11), and provide a new strategic link between the two most populated emirates in the country.
"The new 62 km extension of the current Emirates Raod from Dubai will create new entrances to the city of Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi International Airport, and Yas and Saadiyat Islands," a spokesman for the department told Gulf News Monday.
The motorway is one of the biggest infrastructure projects the Department of Transport is working on as part of its Surface Transport Master Plan (STMP).
