Authority has projects worth Dh25b under way

All infrastructure additions are geared to providing long-term solutions to traffic problems, RTA chief says.

Dubai :The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched various roads and transport projects worth Dh25 billion during the first two years of its inception in November 2005.

Speaking at the second anniversary of the RTA on Sunday, Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA said the authority has completed a number of key projects related to road infrastructure development and public transport while a number of others are being carried out.

"The biggest evidence of our achievements is the volume of the undergoing projects, which exceeds Dh25 billion," Al Tayer told a huge gathering at Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

He said the RTA is working to achieve an integrated transport and traffic strategic plan in the emirate up to 2020. "We have also made short-term solutions to address traffic congestion problems in addition to long term solutions to achieve the vision of the RTA for smooth and safe transport for all," he added.

Explaining, he said the RTA envisages tackling traffic congestion concentrating on six objects: developing roads network, mass transit systems [rail, buses and marine transport], developing policies and legislations to control demand for transport and traffic, and to launch awareness drives.
