Around 50 taxi drivers stopped work on Wednesday says RTA

A group of around 50 taxi drivers stopped work for one hour on Wednesday, after being enticed by a small number of drivers, said the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Dubai: A group of around 50 taxi drivers stopped work for one hour on Wednesday, after being enticed by a small number of drivers, said the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The RTA said a limited number of drivers incited and abetted their colleagues to stop work. However, the situation was generally normal and almost all drivers were on duty.

Abdul Aziz Malek, CEO of Dubai Taxi Agency, said the agency will not compromise in matters related to abidance by driving rules applicable in the UAE, as well as the regulations and internal policies governing the business of the agency; which have been signed by all drivers before taking up positions.

"Achieving satisfaction of our customers, who are the taxi passengers, is a key indicator to judging the quality of services rendered by Dubai Taxi.

"We will not be lenient with any driver who breaches the General Quality Code applicable to drivers of Dubai Taxi and franchise companies, because we are here to provide excellent services to customers," he said.

Malek said the RTA has provided all requirements of drivers such as accommodation, health insurance and annual bonuses.

Distinguished drivers are rewarded and a Drivers Council has been set up to coordinate the requirements of drivers and interact with the agency officials.
