Al Ansar undesignated crossing claims another casualty

Sharjah: The notorious undesignated crossing in front of Al Ansar Mall here claimed another casualty yesterday as a woman tried running across the busy Itihad Road, a Gulf News reader reported.
The reader heard a crash from his 14th floor apartment in Damas Tower next to the mall at 2.30pm and immediately grabbed his camera.
"This is not the first time. I see about four accidents every year," said Zuheir Abdullah. He said police and an ambulance were on the scene within minutes.
"We need an underpass or a pedestrian bridge. The road now runs through a residential area. It is not a highway anymore," he said.
Pedestrians often risk running across the road to get to a mosque or to visit the mall. The only way to get across the road is to drive around or take a taxi.
A petrol station attendant said one of their staff members died trying to cross the road to get to the company accommodation.
Police said the woman had been admitted to Al Qasimi Hospital.
