Dubai: Motorists faced long delays in the city yesterday during one of the worst traffic jams in a month.
The line of traffic was endless on Shaikh Zayed Road throughout the day.
In the first incident, a young Emirati was killed in the morning when his motorbike hit a barrier and turned over on Shaikh Zayed Road. Police said the 31-year-old W.A. overtook vehicles in front of him to get onto the hard shoulder.
He reportedly hit the road barrier speeding, as well as a car that was on the right lane. His motorbike overturned and he was killed instantly.
Another four vehicles collided into the car W.A. rammed into. No injuries were reported, but vehicles were slightly damaged.
The accident took place between the second and third interchange on Shaikh Zayed Road heading towards Abu Dhabi. At about 3pm, a pickup also overturned on Shaikh Zayed Road, causing significant traffic but no injuries.
On Beirut Road, boxes containing ceramic scattered in the middle of a busy junction, causing traffic jams and confusion. A police patrol arrived immediately and organised traffic, while the boxes were removed from the road.
